The role

As a key member of the team you’ll contribute to the efficient and professional running of the CBRN Operations at the National CBRN Centre. Within the role you will be required to provide timely support by offering tactical advice and technical support to UK wide policing operations as well as servicing multi agency partners across all blue light services, military and government departments within the CBRN community.


You should have a CBRN responder background, which is not limited to being a Police CBRN responder but includes any other blue light or military experience. You should hold a CBRN Tactical Advisor qualification or be willing to be to be trained to obtain this qualification after starting this secondment.


You’ll be an excellent communicator to all audiences and a sound decision maker with a flexible approach, taking personal responsibility for making things happen and achieving results. Self-motivation and the ability to prioritise and plan workloads with careful attention to detail and excellent organisational skills are required.



  • Working as part of a team to bring together, maintain and develop the UK’s multi-agency capability to respond to CBRN terrorism
  • Becoming part of the on-call cadre of Duty Officers providing 24/7 support to emergency services responding to CBRN related incidents.
  • Providing access to specialist scientific advice through established partners and being able to explain that advice to responding resources.
  • Completing concise and accurate records of operational CBRN incidents to enable research and evaluation to identify trends, intelligence opportunities or areas for improvement where appropriate.
  • Providing advice, direction, and peer review to support partners during the planning and execution stages of planned events.
  • Producing documents, reviewing operational guidance and providing presentations on the role of the National CBRN Centre, CBRN Operations and supporting international partners through workshops, training events or field exercises.
  • Recognising and highlighting opportunities to improve the performance, reputation and profile of the National CBRN Centre.
  • Developing and enhancing relationships with external agencies, partners and suppliers.
