Information About The Role
At the National CBRN Centre based in Coventry, we bring together the emergency services to protect and prepare the UK against the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threat. It’s a critical function and we’re looking for a suitably experienced and qualified serving police officer as a Training Officer to deliver the Centre’s CBRN training programme to Home Office forces, other organisations and Partner Agencies.
Open to Constables, this role is offered as a 2 year secondment opportunity.
The role
Working as part of a small team, you’ll contribute to the continuing development of the National CBRN Centre by designing, delivering, evaluating and quality assuring training materials to ensure the highest standards are maintained.
You’ll have a CBRN responder background with a training qualification (minimum BTEC L3 or equivalent e.g. Certificate of Education, PGCE, or a recognised training qualification, such as Police Training Qualification).
You’ll be personable, flexible and approachable, whilst taking responsibility for managing situations, leading by example, showing commitment and determination to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Working as part of a team to maintain and develop the multi-agency capability to respond to CBRN terrorism and contribute to the overall vision & mission of the N CBRN C.
- Developing, designing, delivering, evaluating and quality assuring training materials to encourage individual learning.
- Ensuring quality in training and development programmes through delivery of cost effective training in support of the CBRN strategy.
- Decision making within the classroom environment.
- Maintaining and developing a high level of subject knowledge, both in training and operationally.
- Building and developing relationships with external agencies and suppliers.
- To be part of the on-call (24/7) Operations Centre Cadre.
Skills and Competencies
Essential
Minimum Level 3 training qualification or equivalent.
CBRN responder background (or alternate CBRN experience).
Hold a UK driving licence.
Desirable
A1 or equivalent assessor award.
Experience of design, development, delivery or management of emergency service training programmes.
Experience of multi-agency working.
Understanding and/or awareness of current operational multi-agency CBRN issues.
Licenced Search Officer (LSO) or Police Licenced Search Advisor (PoLSA).
Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) trained.
Tactical Advisor – CBRN, Public Order or Firearms (if not already qualified, the successful applicant will be expected to achieve this qualification).
Additional information
⇄ This position is offered as a 2 year secondment to West Midlands Police as host to NCBRNC and attracts Central service Allowance (CSA). You may be required to work occasional unsocial hours including weekend working and be expected to visit various locations across the UK with overnight stays. International travel may also be required. Flexible working patterns may be considered. To qualify, you must confirm in your application that you have received approval through the process established by your Chief Officer for secondments to another Force.
