Information about the role

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) relies on a broad range of technology to protect the UK. As a development operations (DevOps) engineer you’ll be part of a transformational team that will change the way technical solutions are delivered to operational policing.

You’ll join a new team of DevOps engineers, working flexibly from home or from our offices in Birmingham or London. Together, you’ll support the development pipeline for national systems that underpin CTP operations that keep the country safe. It’s an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that will support the development and operation of software to create a world-class function.

The new team will support good development processes including managing tools and testing environments, maintaining central code control, upholding development standards and writing software that automates systems. You’ll deliver automated software components that form part of a development operations tool chain which is an essential role in the team.

This is no job for a beginner. You’ll need a solid background in software engineering or platform infrastructure support. We’re also looking for a proven track record in creating and maintaining DevOps or similar pipelines. And finally, you’ll need a sound grasp of how testing works within a continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline, including automated testing.

You can expect a competitive salary, a Civil Service pension, excellent career development, plus a role that’s like no other.

As a DevOps engineer, you will:

  • take an active role in the development and operation of the DevOps pipeline
  • provide project oversight to ensure standards are met
  • work with developers and engineers to ensure that software development follows established processes and works as intended
  • ensure personal workload is effectively managed, prioritised and issues are escalated to line management as necessary
  • ensure adherence to required polices, standards, controls and best practice
  • create and maintain technical documentation to ensure all services are maintained and knowledge is shared
  • proactively monitor DevOps environments to help prevent issues arising
