The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) was formed in April 2010 and ERSOU operates on behalf of the six Chief Constables and the six Police and Crime Commissioners for the Eastern region as well as a number of functions now covering Kent. With an establishment of over 700 officers and staff ERSOU delivers specialist policing capabilities through its two commands – the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) and, since the 1st July 2017, the Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) Command and through a shared command structure under the direction and control of Bedfordshire Police as lead force.
The ROCU delivers the following capabilities in response to counter the threat from serious and organised crime: Regional Intelligence Unit, Regional Asset Recovery Team, Regional Protected Person Unit, Regional GAIN Coordinator, Regional Cyber and eCrime Unit, Regional Confidential Unit, Regional Investigation Teams, Regional Undercover Unit, Regional Specialist Support Unit, Regional OPSY, Regional Prison Intelligence Unit, Regional Economic Crime Unit.
The capabilities and functions delivered through the new regional CTP Command include Pursue (Intelligence and Investigations), Protect & Prepare, Prevent and CT Borders Policing and it provides the critical link between local policing and the wider CT network. This ensures that as a region we are best placed to deliver against the National Policing Counter-Terrorism Strategy ‘Keeping People Safe from Terrorism’ and the Eastern Region Counter Terrorism Strategy.
