Derbyshire Man Charged with Firearms Offences

A 30 year old man from Derbyshire was charged with firearms offences by Counter Terrorism Policing North East on Saturday, June 25th.

Junaid YUNUS (03/02/1992) of Arkwright Street, Derbyshire was charged with the following offences:

  • One offence of Possess a Prohibited Firearm, contrary to section 5(1)(aba) Firearms Act 1968
  • One offence of possess Ammunition Without a Firearm Certificate, contrary to section 1(1)(b) of the Firearms Act 1968
  • Six offences of Breach of Serious Crime Prevention Order, contrary to section 25 Serious Crime Act 2007
  • One offence of Driving Whilst Disqualified, contrary to section 103(1)b) Road Traffic Act 1988

He will appear before Nottingham Magistrates Court via live link this morning (Saturday, June 25th).

YUNUS was arrested on Sunday, June 19th as part of a pre-planned, intelligence led, operation led by Counter Terrorism Policing North East. Properties were searched throughout the week as part of the arrest.

A warrant of further detention was granted on Tuesday, June 21st, giving detectives additional time to question the subject.
