A man from Cheltenham has been charged with attempted murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm
As part of an investigation led by detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing South East, Joshua Bowles, aged 29, of Welwyn Mews, Cheltenham, has been charged with one count of each offence today (15th March 2023).
The Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges in relation to an incident in which a woman was stabbed outside a leisure centre in Tommy Taylor’s Lane in Cheltenham, on Thursday 9 March. She sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
She remains in hospital at this time in a stable condition.
Bowles, who remains in custody at this time, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (16th March 2023).
Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East, said:
“We would encourage people not to speculate on the specific circumstances surrounding this incident.
“We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no information to suggest any wider threat to the local community. We must now let the judicial process take place.”
