We are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific events at Bondi Beach in Australia, where innocent lives have been lost and many others have been injured.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this appalling act of violence. We stand in solidarity with Jewish communities in Australia and around the world during what should be a time of celebration, and with all those impacted by this horrific act.
Hatred and violence have no place in our societies.
While the details of the incident are still emerging, Australian authorities continue their investigations but have confirmed that this has been designated as act of terrorism, which they believe was targeting Jewish communities .
We understand this will cause significant concern for Jewish communities within the UK. Counter Terrorism Policing is reviewing protective security measures across the UK and working with local forces to provide reassurance. We are working closely with partners to ensure communities feel safe and supported.
We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any concerns to the police. If you see or hear something that doesn’t feel right, report it online and in confidence at gov.uk/ACT.
