Expressions of interests are sought from Constables and Sergeants to support counter terrorism investigations within the custody environment by advising host forces custody staff, sergeants, inspectors and superintendents in to terrorism legislation and best practice for the detention of those held under terrorism provisions

Role responsibilities include:

  • To write high quality warrants of further detention (WoFD) for the delivering detective superintendent and support them through the WoFD process.
  • Manage the day to day running of a counter terrorism custody suite including liaising with partners and stakeholders and ensuring all activities are conducted within legal and time parameters.
  • To plan and supervise switching detainees from PACE to TACT detention and ensuring they are moved to an appropriate custody suite safely and within TACT detention legal constraints.
  • Liaise with Westminster magistrates for WoFD applications and remand hearings as well as HMP service.
  • Complete all required paperwork to a high standard and ensure its distribution.
  • Monitor the custody log for accuracy and adherence to policy.
  • Liaise with the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation and the independent custody visitors.
  • To plan and ensure the safe onward transfer of charged detainees to Westminster magistrates and if required to HMP estate.
  • To have and maintain a good working knowledge of legislation and policy in relation to detentions under TACT provision and PACE Code C.

Applicants must be available for deployment when requested if able, sometimes overnight and to complete one CPD per 12 month period.

You will need to demonstrate flexibility, personal resilience and your ability to work within a small team.  Necessary training will be provided.

Essential Criteria for the role:

  • Ability to work under pressure and within very strict timescales producing a high quality written document drawing on multiple sources of information.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and occasional rest days if custody is live and to work in other regions
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to brief and advise senior officers and challenge if required to ensure lawful decisions and implementation.
  • Attention to detail and desire to work to a high standard sometimes in challenging work environments.
  • Current officer safety and fitness test as custody is an operational environment.
  • Minimum SC vetted
