Information about the Role

This is an exciting time to be working as a valued Police Staff member within SO15 Counter Terrorism Command and the National Digital Exploitation Service (NDES).  The creation of Counter Terrorism Operations Centre (CTOC) has turned Empress State Building into a dedicated Counter Terrorism hub, housing specialist Police and intelligence community partners that offers unique opportunities to work directly alongside other national security colleagues and further build on the close working relationships that already exist.

NDES is made up of 7 services and Service 3 is known as the Digital Media Exploitation Unit (DMEU). This unit focuses on exploiting all aspects of Digital Media and is responsible for the identification, retrieval, assessment and production of evidence from a wide range of digital and video devices within Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) investigations.

DMEU consists of four teams; (1) DMEU Examinations, (2) DMEU Assessments, (3) DMEU Digital Media Solutions and (4) DMEU CCTV Investigations.

The CCTV Investigation Unit consists of three units – CCTV recovery, CCTV Review and CCTV Development and Support.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be required to manage the CCTV Review and CCTV Development and Support Teams.

  • Line management of police officers and staff, welfare, development, training
  • Provide and coordinate training; maintain CPD.
  • Work with SIOs to formulate strategies to support investigative requirements
  • Brief and supervise a team of officers and staff who gather/assess/ review / develop CCTV evidence for CT or other high priority investigations
  • Ensure taskings are progressed efficiently within agreed timeframes and that all relevant information is shared with investigation teams, intelligence partners and other relevant law enforcement agencies
  • Attend operational investigative meetings in order to present the findings to the SIO
  • Generate and provide intelligence updates, and evidential CCTV packages, to support CT investigations, and other high profile investigations.
  • Liaise with investigation teams and provide updates to Case Officers and Senior Investigating Officers (SIOs).
  • Provide fast time information to further investigative leads.
  • Provide advice and guidance in relation to CCTV assessment / review strategies, exploiting digital forensic opportunities and the presentation of CCTV evidence.
  • Understand the importance and implications of the Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice.
  • The compilation of evidence to support trials, inquests and public enquiries.
  • Ensure that tasking requests are progressed (and developed) efficiently, within agreed time frames, and that all relevant information is shared correctly with investigation teams, intelligence partners and other relevant law enforcement agencies.
  • Produce operational and performance data at regular departmental meetings.
  • Be a member of the Service 3 on call rota
