This opportunity is available as a 2 year Secondment or a Transferee opportunity. 

As a Detective Inspector within the Investigations department, you’ll be responsible for counter terrorism investigations and community engagement strategies that ensure CTPWM activity protects the public from the risks of terrorism and violent extremism whilst minimising community disruption.

You’ll develop and lead high performing teams and embed a professional culture. We are seeking a highly capable candidate with a strong investigative background, an enquiring mind and sound professional knowledge. Leading the response to Counter Terrorism investigations requires innovation, tenacity, a problem solving approach and the ability to foster strong relationships. You’ll be a people focused person who puts wellbeing, inclusion and ethical leadership at the heart of what you do.

You’ll effectively and efficiently manage complex investigations, managing competing demands and critically analyse vast amounts of information, identifying and managing risks and implementing appropriate control measures.

Responsibilities 

  • Leading major investigations in a high profile and emotive environment in a manner that enhances trust and confidence, bringing these investigations to a successful criminal justice conclusion.
  • Managing covert and sensitive assets, intelligence and investigative functions to disrupt terrorist activity.
  • Continually improving the quality of service that we provide locally, regionally and nationally in the current economic climate.
  • Demonstrating strong and visible leadership whilst influencing the development of staff and the department in line with the values of West Midlands Police.
  • Effectively supervising investigators in their duties, paying particular attention to welfare, discipline and the improvement of their investigative techniques and provision of suitable training.
  • Assisting with the development of policies and procedures to improve working practices and enhance our reputation.
