Information About The Role

The Forensic Services section of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit is looking for a dynamic and high performing Tier 1 Fingerprint Identification Officer to join the Regional Fingerprint Bureau Unit on a Permanent basis. The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for the service delivery of an extensive range of specialist technical and administrative functions.

EMSOU-FS forms part of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit and unites the assets and resources of the East Midlands Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Unit with the Special Branches of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire forces to create a single collaborative regional unit.

This post requires regular access to sensitive material and applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo enhanced security clearance before taking up the post. The material may be of sensitivity to the UK and may therefore be restricted to UK nationals.  In approved circumstances, dual nationals (of which one element is British) may be granted access.

However, if potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed, the post holder will not be permitted access the systems or material required for the role and will not therefore be able to perform their duties. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or achieve the required levels of security clearance requirements cannot be offered the post.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and process fingerprints and scene of crime marks in line with bureau policy and within agreed quality standards, carrying out relevant searches either manually or electronically.
  • Attend scene of crimes and mortuaries as and when required liaising with Tier 3 Fingerprint Identification Officers and the Central Services Manager – Biometrics to establish and carry out an effective fingerprint examination and recovery.
  • Ensure data integrity with regards to fingerprint identifications for all Police systems including five regional Crime Management systems and nationally PNC, Ident1 and Custody.
