Counter Terrorism Policing and London Fire Brigade team up for new episode of Inside Counter Terrorism Policing podcast

“The weird and wonderful happens, and the public don’t realise the things we’re involved in…”

Chart-topping podcast Inside Counter Terrorism Policing has returned this week with a bonus episode that goes behind the scenes of one of our most critical blue light partners, the fire service.

In this episode, we speak to National Interagency Liaison Officer (NILO) ‘Liz’, who shares what it’s like to be part of the response to major incidents and speaks about her experience during the Fishmongers Hall attack in 2019.

“You just go into some sort of mode where you’re training kicks in… you just do it.”

‘Liz’ started her career in the public sector after successfully applying to the London Fire Brigade’s graduate scheme and describes it as something she was ‘destined’ to do.

Her motivation stemmed from a surreal family rescue, with her firefighter grandad rescuing her aunty from a house fire just months before the two families were introduced. ‘Liz’ retells and recounts the story as the moment she thinks forged her path to follow in his footsteps.

“If you believe in destiny, I think that it was made for me to follow this path.”

‘Liz’ currently works as a NILO and explains what this role is in the podcast whilst highlighting the close working relationship the London Fire Brigade has with Counter Terrorism Policing and the Metropolitan Police.

She also gives a unique insight into what it takes to train as a fire officer and the range of work she and her colleagues are involved in every day to keep people safe.
