Head of CTP responds to social cohesion action plan

Yesterday, 9 March, the government published their Protecting What Matters action plan which sets out the steps it is taking to improve social cohesion.

In response to the plan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing, Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, said:

“We welcome the measures outlined in the ‘Protecting What Matters’ social cohesion action plan, particularly those designed to combat extremism and to secure online spaces.

“All too often, online radicalisation is a factor in our casework, and for some time we have warned about the increasing numbers of young people being exposed to hateful content online and drawn down a dangerous path.

“It is right that online safety is prioritised, that platforms are held to account and that users are given more control over what they are exposed to when they spend time in those spaces.

“We also welcome plans to support the disruption of hostile state activity and proxy organisations working against the UK, which is a growing area of focus for CTP and our partners.

“The need for a whole-of-society approach has been recognised, and we look forward to continuing to work with the government and partners across society to achieve this.”
