Information about the Role

An Intelligence Researcher within Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) differs from the role of an Academic Researcher. You will be responsible for exploiting a range of research techniques to support the analytical functions within CTP Analysis and Research. You will develop intelligence products and research profiles to provide insight to senior leaders to support operational decision-making and drive activity to meet tight deadlines. You will work as part of a team to mitigate threat, harm and risk. This includes working across Islamist, Right Wing, Left Wing, Anarchist and Single-Issue thematics to understand the threat from Terrorism to the UK in support of the UK CONTEST strategy.

You will be posted to work either in CTP national headquarters (CTPHQ), focusing on strategic threats to the UK, or within the London Region (CTP London), which responds specifically to the operational threat of terrorism in the capital. Your role will be pivotal in understanding the threat from terrorism and extremism both in London and across the UK. This will include supporting live counter-terrorism investigations including attack planning in London, or outside the UK where British nationals are involved.

Responsibilities 

  • Gather, collate and process data and information to support development of analytical and intelligence products.
  • Conduct intelligence research across multiple systems including national and local police databases and CTP specific systems.
  • Conduct open-source research to build profiles of individuals, groups or threats.
  • Prepare research products and intelligence packages to support both strategic assessments as well as operational requirements.
  • Present information in a clear, accurate, and concise manner by interrogating and summarising large and varied data sources.
  • Work to a high level of integrity, routinely handling Secret information.
