Counter Terrorism Policing honour International Women’s Day 2024

To honour International Women’s Day 2024 Counter Terrorism Policing is sharing the experiences of female officers and staff from across our UK wide network.

Recognised across the world, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

It also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

This year, we’ve shared stories of women working for Counter Terrorism Policing who are passionate about female leadership, inclusivity and being open about the challenges they’ve faced during their policing careers.

Detective Constable Ayesha

Amongst them are senior detectives, a data science specialist and a senior policy advisor working around the clock to keep the public safe from terrorism.

You can read their stories here and hear directly from them on our social media channels.

Whilst gathering women’s experiences, we have heard some incredible stories, including this powerful testimony from one of our detectives, Ayesha.

Ayesha’s childhood in Pakistan inspired her to join the police, first as a special constable in the East Midlands, and later the Metropolitan Police in London.

She’s now a family liaison officer and a counter terrorism detective, contributing directly to our mission to protect the public.

This week has also marked the first ever National Week of Celebration and Recognition for Police Staff across UK policing, led by our colleagues at the National Police Chiefs Council.

You can read an open letter from our Head of Counter Terrorism Policing here, thanking them for their service.

We hope the stories we’ve shared inspire you.
