17 year old from Gateshead Charged With Seven Offences

A 17 year old from Gateshead has appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court today (Monday, July 31) following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

Following his arrest on Friday (July 28), he was charged on Saturday, July 30 with the following offences:

  1. On 26 January 2023, possessed a document containing information of a kind likely to be of use to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58(1)(b) Terrorism Act 2000.
  2. On 18 February 2023, possessed a document containing information of a kind likely to be of use to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58(1)(b) Terrorism Act 2000.
  3. On 18 February 2023, possessed a document containing information of a kind likely to be of use to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58(1)(b) Terrorism Act 2000.
  4. On 18 February 2023, possessed a document containing information of a kind likely to be of use to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58(1)(b) Terrorism Act 2000.
  5. On 23 February 2023 provided a service to others that enabled them to obtain, read, listen to, or look at terrorist publications, or to acquire them,  by means of a gift, sale or loan, contrary to section 2(1)(d) of the Terrorism Act 2006.
  6. Between 23 January 2023 and 12 February 2023 made two category A indecent images of a children of which two were moving images, contrary to section 1(1)(a) of the Protection of Children Act 1978.
  7.  On 13 May 2023 had in his possession a Category A indecent photograph of a child, contrary to section 160(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.

He has been remanded in custody to next appear, via video link, before Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday, August 7.
