Chris

Senior Project Manager

Can you explain your roles and responsibilities?

Chris

As a Senior Project Manager, I will be deployed onto higher value and more complex projects or working as part of a wider programme.

As part of the project management community at headquarters, we have good technical knowledge of project management – applying best practice and industry standards / government frameworks to governance approaches, dealing with risks and issues and ensuring a project is delivered on time, to quality and cost ensuring best value for money to the tax payer.

We gain good insight of the policing environment and teams within it, applying this to projects and work packages to achieve the fullest extent of associated benefits and experience for end users and ultimately members of the public.

What do you enjoy best about your role?

I’m lucky to work with a number of passionate and highly skilled colleagues. The culture within the change team is very supportive, allowing everyone to be themselves and seek / give advice and guidance when it is needed.

When the time comes, the team pulls together to achieve the goal. The team celebrates successes and calls out exceptional performance.

How did you get into your role?

Initially I picked up projects as part of my usual day job in previous roles. It’s something I always enjoyed, so took the opportunity to move into project management full time starting as a Project Support Officer for another organisation.

I started with the Metropolitan Police Service a few years ago and I’ve been well supported in taking on additional responsibilities and had plenty of development to get me into my current role.

I’ve had both formal training with official accreditations supported by coaching and mentoring within my team to put my learning into practice.

I’ve worked closely with my line manager and wider team to successfully complete my development plan and objectives within my personal development review which has helped me achieve my current role.

What is your greatest achievement (or, rather, what are you most proud of)?

I’m most proud of the Directors Letter of Thanks I received for the work I’ve been doing as part of the project management team and work on my current programme. I’m proud as this highlighted some of the work I’d done around my own development and my contributions to both teams.
